Math for Other Majors

You will likely need to take math to fulfill Western’s General University Requirement or possibly for a minor, but not for a major requirement. Since it is unlikely that you will need math courses for your major, it is not necessary to take math in your first quarter at Western. You will learn more about math requirements at orientation.

Curious about whether you may need to take the MPA?

If you have done or will do any of the following, then you will likely not need to take the MPA:

  • Earn college credit in a Calculus course with a grade of C- or better
  • Score a 2, 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus exam
  • Earn college credit in a Pre-Calculus II course with a grade of C- or better
  • Earn college credit in a Pre-Calculus I course with a grade of C- or better
  • Earn college credit in a College Algebra course with a grade of C- or better
  • Earn a Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) Associate Degree from a Washington state community college
  • For college credit earned through International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in Mathematics, please see the IB Credit Table

If none of the above applies to you, you will likely need to take the MPA.
