Sociology

Sociology offers two degrees—a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS).

The Sociology BA does not require a math course as a major requirement. However, students are required to take a course that uses a math course as a prerequisite.

If you are pursuing the Sociology BA and have done or will do any of the following, then you will likely not need to take the MPA:

  • Earn college credit in a Calculus course with a grade of C- or better
  • Score a 2, 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Calculus exam
  • Earn college credit in a Pre-Calculus II course with a grade of C- or better
  • Earn college credit in a Pre-Calculus I course with a grade of C- or better
  • Earn college credit in a College Algebra course with a grade of C- or better
  • For college credit earned through International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in Mathematics, please see the IB Credit Table.

If none of the above applies to you, you will likely need to take the MPA.

The Sociology BS requires that you take Calculus I and II, as well as another advanced math course, as major requirements.

If you have done or will do any of the following, then you will likely not need to take the MPA:

  • Earn college credit in a Calculus course with a grade of C- or better
  • Score a 2, 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Calculus exam
  • Earn college credit in a Pre-Calculus II course with a grade of C+ or better
  • For college credit earned through International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in Mathematics, please see the IB Credit Table.

If none of the above applies to you, you will likely need to take the MPA.
